The program didn’t just help me financially, but physically, mentally, and emotionally as well. I am so grateful to be a part of something so astounding.

Travel Stipend Use: Travel home for a funeral

Davina arrived at her interview fully prepped. She and her grandmother, Davina's steady advocate and advisor, ran a mock interview the night before.

This same resourcefulness helped Davina as she single-handedly steered through three high schools to find one she believed could prepare her for college. She found the right one halfway through her junior year: Mastery Charter – Pickett Campus. Despite being behind in her academics due to gaps in her prior schools’ programs, Davina focused on achieving and that effort paid off. She was ultimately inducted into the National Honor Society.

Internships with the Mercy Health System and Independence Blue Cross have left Davina thinking her career may lie somewhere within health care. She’ll find out at Penn State Main, a school her grandfather thought was a great fit. Davina heads there with a four-year scholarship and a JMB Award mentor in her bag. Her grandfather, since deceased, would be proud.
